Tanya Arnold is an experienced sports reporter and presenter at both regional and national level.  She is the sports reporter and presenter for the regional news in Yorkshire, BBC Look North.  For BBC Sport she works as pitch-side reporter and presenter on the Rugby League coverage which has included the Challenge Cup and the Rugby League World Cup.  For the past 6 years she has presented the weekly regional and network Rugby League highlights programme, the Super League Show. She’s also presented sport for Breakfast News both on location, in the studio and for the News Channel.  Among the other career highlights she covered the 2012 Olympics in London, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Marion Lowrence, Director of The PA Hub won Yorkshire PA of the Year in 2011 and went on to win the International Pitman Training Super Achievers PA of the Year award in 2012. The self-assurance this gave Marion was beyond recognition as she excelled in her role further and began to network more as her confidence grew. On the back of this Marion set up The PA Hub Network with her husband Jon Lowrence to provide a much needed service for the PAs of Yorkshire. Now running successfully for over 4 years there is a place for PAs to network, learn, share expertise and develop with the addition of being recognised in their roles at these prestigious awards.

Marion decided to run the PA awards under the company umbrella of The PA Hub after winning herself in 2011 and knowing the self-assurance it brought her. The PA Hub wants to see assistants excel and be recognised for the amazing job they do and the support they provide to their companies every day. These awards are an opportunity for the assistants to stand up and be in the spotlight for a very special evening that puts the role of the assistant on the map. The event will showcase and celebrate the successes of the assistants in Yorkshire companies.

Melanie’s career as an Executive Assistant has spanned over 30 years, many of which were spent supporting a number of Senior Partners at PwC, both in Leeds and Leicester.  Her time with the firm culminated in a position as Co-ordinator of their Family Business Network in Europe and the Middle East.

Melanie joined Bettys & Taylors Group in Harrogate in 2002.  Her current role is Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of Taylors of Harrogate and she is also a member of the Taylors Leadership Team.

During her time with Bettys & Taylors, Melanie has undertaken a number of leadership programmes and as part of her role acts as a one-to-one developer and coach within the business.

She is a Fellow of EPAA (Executive & Personal Assistants Association), a member of the PA Hub and was awarded the title of Yorkshire PA of the Year in 2016.

Donna is the personal assistant to Helena Bonham Carter, Rachel Weisz, Sir Derek Jacobi, Samuel West and Harland Miller, she has been in this role for sixteen years. She lives in North London with her daughter and a tortoise.

She is also known as an expert in her field and has made many television appearances as a Celebrity Personal Assistant including:

As a TV Presenter in her own right she is regularly seen presenting several fashion brands on QVC and can currently be seen on the infomercial on UK TV for the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing System and recently the MacMillan Cancer Coffee Campaign for TV and Cinemas. In 2015 she also performed as a presenter in the hugely popular theatre production You Me Bum Bum Train in London’s West End.

Donna is a very popular public speaker and seminar leader, and has excellent experience in being a PA Awards judge having judged Hays PA of the Year at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel in London, Keynote Speaker and Judge at the Scottish PA of the Year Awards in association with Hays Secretarial in Glasgow and been guest speaker and presenter at the Mayfair PA of the Year at the Mayfair Hotel.

Donna has further presented at PA Events including Behind Every Leader conference in LA, World of Executive PA in Kuala Lumpur, The Corporate PA Summit in Perth, Australia and the 5th National EA & PA Convention in Sydney, office* show in Sydney and London and then closer to home Donna has presented at the Conference and Hospitality Show, ExecSec Summit, The PA Hub, Manchester PA Network, Wales NHS PA Conference to name a few. 2016 highlights included hosting a pilot for the game show Categorical and appearing in the short film Singularity.

She has had features written on her and her work in various publications including: Easy Living Magazine, Executive PA Magazine, Executary News, PA Life Magazine, the Mayfair Times, The Independent and Women’s Health and Fitness.

Criteria for Awards and Nominees

The following information is designed to help you complete your applications for The PA Hub Awards. You can either nominate someone for an award or you can apply yourself.

We refer to the role throughout the information as Personal Assistant (PA). This is a generic use of the title for an assistant and covers other job titles such as Executive Assistant (EA), Business Assistant (BA), Secretary, Legal Secretary, Medical Secretary, Office Manager, Administrator etc. It is impossible to list all versions of the title for the role. We assume the assistants that apply are assisting at Director level or equivalent to qualify. If you want to check that you are eligible to apply please do not hesitate to contact us for clarification. We will treat each case individually and look at the role rather than the title.

Rising Star

Interviews will not be held for this category. However, to help the judges make their decision please provide examples within your application that can be taken into consideration.

This can include telling us about new skills that have been developed in the role or additional training that has been completed and how these skills have been applied to improve performance. Please also tell us about any future plans for development you have planned or are considering.

The nominee will have been a PA for less than four years and is showing enough promise for you to expect them to go far within the PA industry. They will demonstrate commitment to the company and have an eagerness to learn and develop. They will be ambitious, confident, and always happy to assist colleagues and managers. They show enthusiasm that shines through, have a can do attitude and have made your office a happy place to be!

They may volunteer for a charity or be a much needed helping hand to a member of the public. They may have raised money for charity in some way or they may be a shining example of the community showing passion to a cause by helping others achieve. A PA who makes you wonder, “How do they fit all this in as well as work, family and life?” This award recognises the unsung heroes of our communities.

The nominee for this category will have excellent organisational skills enabling them to produce and deliver an outstanding event; be that a board meeting, an away day, gala dinner or a full-on conference. The nominee will have timing and co-ordination attributes, the ability to communicate and work with all levels of staff involved which is essential to deliver that special event.

This category will showcase the best internal PA networks within Yorkshire companies. PAs who network within their own businesses tend to deliver a better service to their managers. Pulling together expertise and resources on a local basis helps company PAs share best practice and information and meet the needs of the business while creating a unified sense of collaboration between the assistants.

Tell us how you use social media to help you in your role or within your PA community.

Social Media is no longer a ‘nice to have’ with technology improving at a rapid pace meaning companies are now using these tools in their day to day marketing strategies. PAs are using social media as platforms to communicate between businesses, organisations and their PA communities and we want to find those who are excelling in this area. This category will showcase those PAs who have embraced social media into their roles and/or are interactive on a personal basis to communicate with other PAs around the PA industry.

Interviews will not be held for this category. However, to help the judges make their decision please provide examples within your application that can be taken into consideration.

This can include a particular project that has achieved success or something such as how the team meet specific objectives by required deadlines or maybe your team have undertaken specific training together to meet the needs of the business.

This category is for a team of PAs who work as a group to deliver an excellent service to their company and work over and above expectations. They will demonstrate outstanding team work and show invaluable initiative to the business they work for. They will work extremely well together to achieve set objectives and provide a good support network for not only their own team but those who they work with on a daily basis. They will support each other and make sure the business runs smoothly with a consistent high level of work, achieving specific objectives and delivering the required outcomes. They may also provide tea and cake for each other on those days when the going gets tough!

The judges would like to hear about all the positive attributes your boss has and how they deliver the message of good working values throughout the organisation.

The nominee for this award will be highly regarded by all levels of staff. They have the ability to communicate at all levels, show instinctive leadership skills with an understanding for their employees. They show strength, direction and cascade their company’s values to all teams and employees within their structure. They value their employees and listen to their ideas that may better the business. They have inclusive ideas and work hard to run the company efficiently and effectively. As a PA having a good relationship with the manager is paramount. Vote here for a boss that you respect and work in partnership with; the one you don’t mind working for even when he/she is having a bad day (you know it is not personal)!

The nominee for this special award must have been a PA for over 20 years showing continuous enthusiasm and commitment to their chosen profession. They will be recognised for their lifetime dedication to the industry and for their continuing professional and personal development. They will be highly respected by their colleagues and peers and have reached the pinnacle of their career. They could be a mentor to less senior PAs or the centre piece of a company’s universe! Overall the team could not be without them. This award will be testament to their dedication to their career and the company.

The nominee for this exceptionally coveted award will be a PA who is highly regarded by fellow professionals for their overall dedication and accomplishments within their company. This individual will have shown flair, ambition, commitment and have a desire to progress in this profession. Please include examples of how the nominee demonstrates the contribution that they provide for the company and the executive/s they support. This can include examples of where they go above and beyond in their role, making them stand out from the crowd and showing their invaluable skills that the company feels lost and lonely without!

This Award is a real testament to someone who is dedicated to the PA profession and appreciates how important their role is in the day to day running of their business. The winner of this Award will be expected to work with The PA Hub for 12 months following the Awards to promote and champion the profession.
